The Beijing Common Art Center and Shanghai Cai Art Space jointly organized the artist's empowerment solo exhibition "A Person's Art History", which officially opened at Shanghai Cai Art Space! This exhibition showcases the latest works and many exciting works by artist Quan, including the highly anticipated "artistic" series and the sculpture series that made its debut to the public.

The works of Kwon Neung are the art history in his eyes, and a large number of IPs are combined and presented in a long picture. These works are full of human gaze, either not in direct contact with the viewer or in a posture of being gazed upon. This gaze is entirely from a secular perspective, immersed in popular culture and life experiences.

Hello everyone, welcome to the opening ceremony of the Artist Power Solo Exhibition - A Person's Art History. I am Echo Wu Yuqing, the organizer of UART Space. I am very happy and honored to hold an exhibition showcasing the power of our outstanding Korean artists. In front of the works of Power, watching the brilliant moments in various art histories suddenly come to us with Zweig's "When the Stars of Humanity Shine", isn't Power's work another version of art history's artist when the stars shine?

And the artist uses his unique perspective to summarize and organize, forming his own unique narrative language based on the flourishing history. In his works, Margaret walks into Starbucks, while Botticelli's Venus and Vermeer's girl sit together for a gathering. We can see Caravaggio's wine god Sargent's Lady Gauturu engaging in a conversation that transcends time and space. In 1927, John Berger wrote in Ways of Seeing: 'Watching precedes expression, and power gazes at art history with his unique artistic perspective, while we gaze at his gaze.'. Yesterday, while looking at these works with friends, I was also amazed: all art is contemporary art of that era. As an outstanding young representative of contemporary art in our era, Power has provided its own answer in the form of pop art and this exhibition. The reason why pop art is translated as spectral art rather than popular art is that its characteristic as a genre lies in its "universality", which is supported by the masses in daily life and also feeds back to the public from a humanistic perspective.

I am delighted to collaborate with Shanghai Cai Art Space to hold this solo exhibition of Power in Shanghai. Exploring and innovating classic works in art history has always been an eternal theme for artists, and this is fully reflected in Power's works. As a very young artist, he is able to use his unconventional and imaginative imagination to combine these seemingly disordered images into works that evoke different associations and understandings in the audience, giving us another perspective to gaze at our world. This shows that Quan's artistic creativity is excellent.

Opening Ceremony

This trip to Shanghai gave me a special feeling because there are over 100 contemporary art museums in Shanghai, and no other place in the country can compare in size. Among these galleries, the exhibition of Western contemporary art accounts for a large part. However, we should know that from the perspective of overall art history, there is no concept or ideology that arises out of thin air. Behind it are constantly developing and innovating art forms and languages, just like Duchamp's rebellion against neoclassicism. This relationship is presented to everyone in a relaxed yet complete way in the works of Power, like an encyclopedia in art history with strong readability. I think this is also one of the reasons why Power's creation is so highly concerned.

Kwon Neung is a quiet and emotionally sensitive person. And he really enjoys the feeling that travel brings him, his works have a feeling of traveling on the road. Hello everyone, I am Kwon Neung. Thank you to the joint art and art space for preparing this exhibition. I am delighted to be here today to share my work with everyone. For me, art is a way to understand and express the world and experiences I see. And my work also reflects this process. And I hope everyone can find some resonance in my works. I believe that art is a reflection of the world around us, and all art comes from our daily lives. My works are inspired by everyday experiences such as music, literature, and art that I encounter in my daily life. Thank you all for coming to the opening ceremony of the "Kwon Neung Solo Exhibition - A Person's Art History" jointly organized by Lu Caicai Art Space and Co Art Space on this April day in the human world. Shanghai is a diverse, inclusive, and exciting city. On this soil with a strong artistic atmosphere, Teacher Quan has brought us a wonderful exhibition that falls into an artistic dream, leading us into the contemporary trend. In his works, we can feel the power brought by breaking the boundaries of different painting forms. Not only the artistic overlap on the canvas, but also in such a cultural heritage architectural space, we experience a kind of overlap between time and space, a profound history, and a cross-border communication of light aesthetics. As the general manager of the Lu Cai Su He Wan project, I also hope to use the unique geographical environment and cultural atmosphere of the art space to bring new contexts and perspectives to art, bring new feelings and imagination to guests, and stimulate new vitality. Kwon Neung

Born on November 10th, 1990

Graduated from the Painting Department of Hongik University in 2018

Kwon Neung is deeply influenced by Sartre's existentialist philosophy, and this relationship between existence and non existence is reflected in the works of power as a fleeting and fleeting beauty. In the works of power, it is not only the stacking of symbols, but also the confusion of time and space and the interweaving of consciousness. In the works of power, masters in art history and popular culture anime characters, as well as timeless works from ancient East and West, can coexist in the same space. The relationships between these worlds are not hierarchical, as Plato tried to make us believe, but completely equal.
